About the Catalog
The Catalog organizes the data and lists all of the kinds of Xyicons that are available for the account. The Catalog is where new classes and models are created and where the colors of icons and boundaries can be added or changed. It is accessed from the Catalog Panel in the Space, or from the Catalog Grid on the Main Menu. We recommend determining a naming convention for your catalog so that the data in the catalog is added in a consistent way. For example, when adding a brand name to the Make field, determine if full names or abbreviations should be used, and then be consistent on all items of the same Make. Use the icon colors as a way to group and categorize similar items. By planning how to build the catalog ahead of time, the project data will become easier to search and organize.
Fields that are in the Catalog include:
- Icon Text
- Allow Boundary
Class is a drop down list field used to categorize Xyicons that are similar. Examples of Classes include Computer, Printer, Room, or Agriculture. Classes can be added or edited in the Catalog Grid only. Once catalog item is created and saved, its Class cannot be changed to a different Class. If a Class needs to be changed, the original catalog item must be cloned into a new item, and the old one deleted. This field is searchable in SpaceRunner, and is available as a column in the Xyicon and Events Grid. Class is a required field.
Make is the manufacturer or brand name of the catalog item. For example, a Make for an item of Class Computer could be HP, Dell, Apple, or Lenovo. However, this field is a searchable free form text field, so it can be used to categorize catalog items in whichever way the Account prefers. This field is available as a column in the Xyicon and Events Grid. Make is not a required field.
Model is the item number or name of the catalog item. This field is required to be unique, regardless of Class, Make, or Description. The Model field is displayed in the Catalog panel with the Xyicon icon. The Make field is searchable in SpaceRunner, and is available as a column in the Xyicon and Events Grid. Make is a required field.
Description is a way to add additional detail to a catalog item to assist in defining, categorizing, and searching for the record. This field is a searchable free form text field, so it can be used to categorize catalog items in whichever way the Account prefers. This field is available as a column in the Xyicon and Events Grid. Description is not a required field.
Icon Text is the text that appears within the Icon itself. It fits 8-10 characters. Its color and position on the icon can be changed in the Icon Preview window. Icon Text is not a required field.
The Allow Boundary boolean sets the ability for the Xyicon to have associated boundaries. This is typically used for Room, Department, and other area type Classes, but can also be used to visually display other groups of Xyicons in the Space. For example, a Wireless Access Point may have a boundary to show its coverage area, a Sprinkler may have a boundary to show its watering area, or a Manager may have a boundary to capture employee Xyicons. This field is not searchable and is not required.
The Icon Preview displays an example of what the Xyicons will look like when placed on a floor plan. The colors of the icon can be changed and the image that will be used can be searched for and added to the icon.
