    Creating Embedded Xyicons in the Xyicons Module

    Use this article to learn how to create embedded xyicons in the XYICONS module window using the Catalog Panel. Using this method, you can embed xyicons into both regular xyicons and unplotted xyicons.     Before you begin

    • Make sure your catalog items are available in the CATALOG module.
    • Verify your Xyicon User has the necessary permissions to create and update xyicons. User Permissions are managed by your organization's Xyicon Administrator.


    Create an embedded xyicon for a single xyicon

    1. Go to Main Menu (        ) > XYICONS. You will find a list of all the xyicons that belong to your active portfolio.
    2. Click the Create button (        ) on the Action Bar. The Catalog Panel (        ) will open to the left of your screen with a list of catalog items.
      TIP: Click the Dock Catalog button (        ) located at the top of the panel to dock it for easy access.
    3. Drag and drop the catalog item you want to embed from the panel to the desired xyicon row on the XYICON module window. This action will simultaneously create a new xyicon and embed it into the parent xyicon.
      TIP: Xyicon does not support embedding xyicons into an already embedded xyicon. In such cases, the xyicon row will turn grey, and you will see a tooltip indicating that the action is not allowed.
    4. Repeat step 3 as needed.
    5. Once you have your embedded xyicons ready, you can update them with the relevant details.


    Create an embedded xyicon for multiple xyicons

    1. Go to Main Menu (        ) > XYICONS. You will find a list of all the xyicons that belong to your active portfolio.
    2. Next, select the checkboxes against the xyicons for which you want to embed one or more xyicons.
    3. Click the Create button (        ) on the Action Bar. The Catalog Panel (        ) will open to the left of your screen with a list of catalog items.
    4. Select one or more catalog items you want to embed as a xyicon. To select multiple catalog items, press CTRL while selecting the items.
    5. Drag and drop the selected catalog items from the panel to the xyicon rows on the XYICON module window. This action will simultaneously create a new xyicon and embed it into the parent xyicon.
      TIP: Xyicon does not support embedding xyicons into an already embedded xyicon. In case there are embedded xyicons in your selection, Xyicon will skip them during the embedding process.
    6. Once you have your embedded xyicons ready, you can update them with the relevant details.

    How to view a list of embedded xyicons

    1. On the XYICONS module, select the parent xyicon that contains the newly embedded xyicons.
    2. Click the Side Panel > Details tab (        ) and scroll down to the Links section.
    3. Expand the Embedded Xyicons subsection to view a list of embedded xyicons.

    How to view and edit an embedded xyicon's details

    1. Select the parent xyicon and navigate to the Links > Embedded Xyicons subsection on the Side Panel.
    2. Hover over a xyicon and click the Details button (    ). A separate Details panel will open with the embedded xyicon's information.
    3. Edit the embedded xyicon's details as you would a normal xyicon.

    TIP: This method is applicable for both plotted and unplotted xyicons.
    1. Select the parent xyicon and navigate to the Links > Embedded Xyicons subsection on the Side Panel.
    2. Hover over a xyicon and click the Details button (    ). A separate Details panel will open with the embedded xyicon's information.
    3. Scroll down to the Links section to find the parent xyicon.
    4. Hover over the xyicon and click the  Link (    ) button to break the link between the xyicons.

    How to unembed a xyicon from the space editor

    TIP: This method is only applicable for plotted xyicons and cannot be used for unplotted xyicons.
    1. Select the parent xyicon from the list and click on the Open in Space Editor (     ) icon in front of the xyicon. It will direct you to the corresponding xyicon within the designated space in the Space Editor.
    2. To view the embedded xyicons, click the Embedded badge (    ) located at the top right corner of the xyicon.
    3. Drag the embedded xyicon out of the parent xyicon to unembed it.
    TIP: By dragging the embedded xyicons out from the parent xyicon, they will only be unembedded from the parent xyicon, and the link between the xyicons will remain the same. To remove the link between them, simply click on the link icon and break the link. 

    Delete Embedded Xyicons

    CAUTION: Deleting an embedded xyicon removes all data such as ports and links associated with it. Once you delete an embedded xyicon, the action cannot be undone. To remove the link between an embedded xyicon and its parent, consider unembedding the xyicon in the Space Editor instead of deleting it.

    To delete the embedded xyicons in the Xyicon module, you can use the same steps as for deleting a normal xyicon.
