    Use this article to learn how to embed xyicons, view details of the embedded xyicons, and how to unembed a xyicon.

    Embedding a Xyicon within another establishes a relationship between them. The embedded Xyicons are not directly visible in the space editor view; instead, the parent Xyicon indicates the presence of embeds with a Has Embeds indicator (        ) with the count of embedded Xyicons.

    Before you begin

    • Make sure that your Xyicon User has the necessary permissions to view and update spaces and xyicons. User Permissions are managed by your organization's Xyicon Administrator. 

    Embed a Xyicon inside a Single Xyicon

    You can embed xyicons using one of the following methods.

    Method 1 - Embed an Existing Xyicon from your Space

    1. On the Space Editor, select one or more xyicons that you want to embed into the parent xyicon. 
    2. Drag the selected xyicons and drop them onto the parent xyicon. When the embedding is complete, the parent xyicon will display the Has Embeds indicator (        ) with the number of embeds.


    Method 2 - Embed a Xyicon from the Catalog Panel

    1. Open the Catalog Panel (        ) from the Space Editor Toolbar.
      TIP: Click the Dock Catalog button (        ) located at the top of the panel for easy access.
    2. Drag and drop a catalog item onto the xyicon. This action will create a brand new xyicon and embed it into the parent xyicon at the same time.
    3. Repeat step 2 as desired. The Has Embeds indicator (        ) of the parent xyicon will be updated with the number of embeds.


    Embed into Multiple Xyicons

    Use this method when you want to embed new xyicons into multiple existing xyicons at once. For example, embed a keyboard xyicon into all the Computer xyicons in your space.

    1. On the Space Editor, select the xyicons for which you want to embed new xyicons.  
    2. Next, open the Catalog Panel (        ) from the Space Editor Toolbar.
    3. Select one or more catalog items from the Catalog Panel (        ) and drag and drop them onto the selected xyicons in your space. This action will simultaneously create and embed new xyicons into the selected parent xyicons.
    4. Repeat step 3 as desired. The Has Embeds indicator (        ) of the parent xyicons will be updated with the number of embeds.


    View Embedded Xyicon Details

    How to view a list of embedded xyicons

    Click the Has Embeds indicator (    ) on the parent xyicon to open the Embedded Xyicons Dialog. 

    Alternatively, 

    1. Select the parent xyicon on the Space Editor.
    2. On the Side Panel > Details tab (    ), scroll down to the Links section.
    3. Expand the Embedded Xyicons subsection to view a list of embedded xyicons.


    How to view and edit an embedded xyicon's details

    1. Select the parent xyicon on the Space Editor.
    2. Click the Has Embeds indicator (    ) on the parent xyicon to open the Embedded Xyicons Dialog or navigate to the Links > Embedded Xyicons subsection on the Side Panel for the parent xyicon.
    3. Hover over a xyicon and click the Details button (    ). A separate Details panel will open with the selected embedded xyicons information. 
    4. Edit the embedded xyicons details as you would a normal xyicon.
    5. Click the Close button (    ) at the top right corner of the panel, or click outside the panel to return to the Space Editor.


    Unembed a Xyicon

    1. Open the Embedded Xyicons Dialog by clicking the parent xyicon's Has Embeds indicator (        ).
    2. Select the xyicon you want to unembed.
    3. Drag and drop the embedded xyicon into the space to unembed it from the parent xyicon.
    TIP: By dragging the embedded xyicons out from the parent xyicon, they will only be unembedded from the parent xyicon, and the link between the xyicons will remain the same. To remove the link between them, simply click on the link icon and break the link.


    How to delete an embedded xyicon

    CAUTION: Deleting an embedded xyicon removes all data such as ports and links associated with it. Once you delete an embedded xyicon, the action cannot be undone. To remove the link between an embedded xyicon and its parent, consider unembedding the xyicon instead of deleting it.
    1. Open the Embedded Xyicons Dialog.
    2. Hover over a xyicon and click the Delete button (    ). You will be prompted to confirm the action.
    3. Click Yes to delete the embedded xyicon.
