How to: Register your Revit Parameters into Xyicon

Prev Next

Use this article to learn how to get started with leveraging the power of Xyicon's Revit add-in parameter registration for your BIM workflow. Using this feature, you will be able to seamlessly register Revit parameters as Xyicon fields and synchronize data to facilitate better data reporting to stakeholders. Users will be easily capable of bringing in their field data from Revit into Xyicon as well as keeping the data up to date easily using this feature.

You can interact with parameter registration at any point after the model has been registered successfully. Parameter registration is a tool that is used to bring in-field data from the Revit model into the Xyicon application and vice versa. You can register Revit fields as a new field in Xyicon or you also have the option of mapping to an existing field in Xyicon as well if the data types (String, Integer, and Boolean) match. The Add-in accommodates three types of parameter registrations:

  • Family-type parameter registrations

  • Family instance parameter registrations

  • Room parameter registrations

  • Project parameter registrations

Currently, the add-in accommodates for String, Integer, and Boolean data types only.

Before you begin

Before getting started with parameter registrations, users need to make sure that they have:

  • Logged in to the Revit Add-in.

  • Registered your primary model as a portfolio using the Registration tools Portfolio

To learn more about registrations and initializing the application refer to the Quick Start Guide here.

Steps

  1. Access the Xyicon Revit Add-in by navigating to the Xyicon tab in the ribbon bar.

  2. From the ribbon bar, select Parameter, which is available under Registration tools.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, you can view a full list of parameters available for registration. The default tab selected would be for family instance parameter registrations. To switch to a different parameter registration type, select the desired parameter type from the dropdown.

  4. Select one or more records from this window.

  5. Select the Register button from the action bar at the bottom of the window to register your parameters as fields in Xyicon. If you need to deregister any parameters select the needed records and select Deregister from the same action bar.

  6. You also have the option of mapping a parameter to an existing field in Xyicon by selecting the Field name from the field dropdown.

What’s next?

Now that you have successfully understood how parameter registration works, you can collaborate across teams and make various changes to your model information as needed. Up next you can take a look at how users can:

  • Collaborate using Family synchronization

  • Collaborate using Room synchronization
