Use this article to learn about Xyicon's Portfolio Wide Search feature and how to use it. As the name suggests, the Portfolio Wide Search finds and displays objects (spaces, xyicons, boundaries, documents) that belong to the portfolio you are currently working on (also known as the active portfolio).
Additionally, you can use the search feature to find the catalog items (based on the logged-in user's permission level)
Based on the searched object's type, you can also view and edit its details and navigate to it.
Before you begin
Make sure you have the necessary permissions to access the objects you want to search. User Permissions are managed by your organization's Xyicon Administrator.
Searching for an Object
The Portfolio Wide Search is available in the Xyicon header, and you can access it from any module, including the Space Editor.
- To search an object, type your search term into the field and press the Enter key on your keyboard or click the Search button ( ) located next to the field.
Xyicon will match the search term to the field data of the available objects and display the results. - If the search results contain more than one object type, use the navigator to the right to go to the relevant section.
- If you cannot see any results check whether you have entered the search term correctly and have the necessary permissions to see the object you want to search.
View and Edit an Object's Details
You can view and edit the searched object's details right from the search results window. Note that you are only allowed to edit field values in this instance.
- Hover over the object you want to view or edit.
- Click the Details icon ( ) to open the Details panel. Alternatively, you can also click the object to open the Details panel.
- View or edit the object's details as you normally would.
Navigating to the Searched Object in Xyicon
In addition to viewing (or editing) the searched object's details, you can also use the Portfolio Wide Search window to quickly navigate to the object in the Space Editor or its respective module.
- Hover over the object you want to open.
- Click one of the icons below to locate the object.
- Open in Space Editor ( ) - Locates the object on the Space Editor. Note: This option is only available for boundaries and plotted xyicons.
- Open in Grid ( ) - Locates the object on the module it belongs. This option is available for all xyicons (plotted and unplotted), boundaries, spaces, and catalog items.
- If the object is not shown in the space, check if the object is being filtered out by the current view's filters/layers.
