Use this article to learn how to add boundaries to your selected space inside Space Editor

Before you begin

  • Make sure module settings such as Boundary Types, Boundary Fields, and Boundary Layouts are set up for the Boundary module.
  • Verify your Xyicon User has the necessary permissions to create boundaries.

Module Settings and User Permissions are managed by your organization's Xyicon Administrator.

Add a Boundary from the Boundary Panel

  1. Open your space in the Space Editor.
  2. On the Space Editor Toolbar, click the Draw Boundary button (    ).  The Boundary panel will open with a list of available boundary types.
  3. Click on the boundary type that you want to create. You will enter the drawing mode that allows you to draw a boundary.
TIP: When you are in drawing mode, your cursor changes to a crosshair (    ), also known as a precision select.
  4. Use one of the methods below to draw your boundary. You can create as many boundaries of the selected type as you like.

METHOD 1

  1. Locate the start of the boundary (e.g., room or department) on the space background.
  2. Click and drag to draw the boundary, then release the mouse button to complete the action.
  3. Using this method, you can create boundaries that are square or rectangular.

METHOD 2

  1. Locate the start of the boundary on the space background.
  2. Click on the start point of the boundary, move your cursor to the next location, and click. You have now created a polyline.
  3. Continue drawing polylines until you reach the start point of the boundary.
  4. To complete drawing the boundary, click on the start point once again.
  5. Using this method lets you create boundaries of varying shapes.
  6. To exit the drawing mode, click the Selection Tool button (   ) on the Space Editor toolbar or press the Esc key.
  7. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 above to add different types of boundaries to your space.
  8. You can view the list of boundaries available for the current space editor view on the Side Panel > Boundaries tab (    ). You can also view them in the BOUNDARIES module.

Add Boundaries by Cloning

Both Copy and Copy to Stamp methods help you speed up creating boundaries by cloning existing boundaries and their information. Use them when you need to create a single or multiple copies of, for example, an irregularly shaped boundary.

Copy

  1. Select one or more boundaries you want to copy.
  2. On the Action Bar click Copy (    ).
  3. Move to the desired location on your space and click to paste a single copy of the selected boundary.
TIP: You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste your boundaries.

Copy to Stamp

  1. Select one or more boundaries you want to copy.
  2. On the Action Bar, click the More Options button (        ) and click Copy to Stamp. Your cursor will turn into stamp mode.
  3. Move to the desired location on your space and click to paste the copied boundary.
  4. Repeat step 3 as often as you need to make multiple copies.
  5. When you are done copying your boundaries, press the Esc key on your keyboard to exit the stamp mode.
TIP: You can use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+S to stamp and Ctrl+V to paste.
