Using Markups to Annotate a Space

Use this article to learn how to add, manage, and delete a markup on your space. To learn more about the different types of markups and annotations available in the Space Editor, read the Markup Tool article.

Before you begin

Make sure that your Xyicon User has the necessary permissions to view and update spaces. User permissions are managed by your organization's Xyicon Administrator.


Adding a Markup

  1. Navigate to the SPACES module and double-click your space to open it in the Space Editor.

  2. Click on the Markup Tool Selector button on the Space Editor Toolbar. The Markup Toolbar will be displayed. Next, click on the markup you want to add.

  3. Select a color for the markup from the Color Palette (    ).

  4. Then click and drag on the background to draw your markup.

    NOTE: For 360 Photo () markup, simply select the markup, choose a color, and click on the background where you want it to appear. See the Adding 360 Photo section to learn more.

  5. To see the different options available for a markup tool, double click or click and hold on the desired markup tool button (Arrow and LinePencilShapesMeasuring).

  6. Click on the desired markup tool and then repeat steps 3 and 4.


Change Background Transparency

  1. Click the Selection Tool (    ) and select the markup.
  2. On the Action Bar, click the Background Opacity (   ) button, and select one of the following options to change the markup's transparency level.
    • Fill (    )
    • Semi Fill (    )
    • No Fill (    )

Adding Text

Add Text to your Space

  1. On the Markup Toolbar, click the Text Box markup (    ) and click on the background where you want the text box to appear.
  2. Click inside the text box and start typing your content.
  3. Use the formatting options available on the markup's Text Formatting Bar to change your content formatting.
  4. Click outside the text box to save your changes.

Add Text to other markups

In addition to the Text Box markup, you can also add text to the Cloud, Callout, Shapes, and 360 Photo markups.

  1. Click the Selection Tool (    ) and select the markup to which you want to add text.
  2. On the Action Bar of the markup, click the Add Text button (    ) and type your content.
  3. Use the formatting options available on the Text Formatting Bar to change the formatting of your content.

Change Text Alignment

  1. Select the Text, Cloud, or one of the Shapes markup using the Selection Tool (    ).
  2. On the Action Bar of the markup, click the Add Text (    ) button to get the Text Bar.
  3. Click the Align Text button (    ) on the Text Formatting Bar and click on the desired text alignment.

Change Color

In addition to the Color Palette (    ) on the Markup Toolbar, you can change the color of a markup after adding it to the space.

  1. Click the Selection Tool (    ) and select the markup.
  2. On the Action Bar, click the Markup Color (    ) button, and select a color from Basic, or Advanced options.

Adding 360 Photo

  1. On the Markup Toolbar, click the 360 Photo markup () and click on the background where you want that to appear.
  2.  Select a 360 photo from your device and double click to add.
  3. Once added, select the photo previewer from the action bar to preview the photo.
  4. Select the view mode from the dropdown on the top left corner of the preview photo window. You can select the mopde
    • Normal View - You can preview the uploaded 360 photo.
    • Mixed View - You can view the 360 photo within the 3D view of your space.
    • Split View - You can view both your space and the uploaded 360 photo side by side.
  5. You can adjust your 360 photo using the available options on the bottom left corner of the preview photo window.
    • Show other 360 photos - This allows you to view multiple 360 photos that are available on the space. If toggled off, only the selected 360 photo will be visible.
    • Limit 360 photos to show - You can adjust the scale to set the number of 360 photos you want to be displayed in the space. If only one photo is present, the scale will show "0". If there are multiple photos, the total number of photos will be displayed.
    • Opacity - This is applicable only in the Mixed View. It allows you to adjust the opacity level of the 360 photo, enabling it to blend with your space. 
    • Height Offset - This is applicable only in Mixed and Split views. It allows you to adjust the height of your 360 photo to better align with the space.
    • Rotation Offset - This is applicable only in Mixed and Split views. It enables you to adjust the rotation of your 360 photo to better align with the space.

Copying, Moving, Scaling, and Rotating a Markup

Copy

  1. Click the Selection Tool (   ) and select the markup you want to move.
  2. To select multiple markups, press and hold the Ctrl/Cmd key while clicking on the markups you want to move.
  3. Click the Copy button    ) on the Action Bar, and click on the desired location on your space to paste them.
NOTE: You can also click on More Tools (    ) from the selected markup's Action Bar and select Copy to Stamp to paste multiple instances of the selected markup.
Additionally, select Cut from More Tools to cut and paste the markup.

Move

  1. Click the Selection Tool (   ) and select the markup you want to move.
  2. To select multiple markups, press and hold the Ctrl/Cmd key while clicking on the markups you want to move.
  3. Drag and drop the markups to the desired location on your space.

Scale and Edit

  1. Using the Selection Tool (   ), select the markup you want to scale or edit.
  2. Click the Edit button (   ) on the Action Bar to display the markup's points.
  3. To scale the Cloud, Callout, Arrow and Line, Text Box, Shapes, Linear Distance, and Rectangle Area markups, click on a point of the markup and drag it in the desired direction.
  4. To edit the shape of the Pencil, Highlighter, Nonlinear Distance, or Irregular Area markups, click on a point and drag it.
  5. To save your changes, click the Save button (    ) on the Edit Toolbar.

Rotate

  1. Select the markup you wish to rotate.
  2. Click the Rotate button (    ) on the markup's Action Bar.
  3. Grab the rotate handle and turn the markup to the desired position.

Show/Hide Markups

  1. Click on the Layers button (    ) on the View Bar to open the Layers Panel on the right side of your screen. 
  2. Scroll down to the Markups section on the panel to see various markup types available in Xyicon. For example Arrow, Cloud, Callout, etc.
    Parentheses indicate how many markups are available for each type within the space.
  3. To hide a markup type, click the Toggle Visibility button (    ) next to the markup type.
    Click (    ) to make hidden markups visible.


Deleting a Markup

  1. Select one or more markups.
  2. Click the Delete button (    ) on the Action Bar or press the Delete key on your keyboard. You will be prompted to confirm the action.
  3. Click Yes to delete the selected markups.
